To provide certain regulated financial services, Trybesave partners with licensed financial institutions and regulated financial service providers. Accordingly, your personal information may be processed by us and such partners where necessary to deliver the services you request and to comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations.

We are committed to processing your personal data in accordance with:

  1. the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 ("NDPA");
  2. applicable regulations and guidance issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission ("NDPC");
  3. Central Bank of Nigeria ("CBN") regulations and consumer protection requirements;

  5. the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act;
  6. other applicable laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

By creating an account or using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

2.Scope of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to all personal information processed by Trybesave in connection with the Platform.

It applies to:

  1. individuals who register for a ChequeIn account;
  2. users of our mobile applications and websites;
  3. individuals who connect financial accounts using Open Banking or similar technologies;
  4. users of savings, payments, wallet, lending and AI-powered financial services;
  5. prospective customers;
  6. former customers;
  7. visitors to our websites;
  8. individuals who contact Customer Support;
  9. persons whose personal information is provided to us by our licensed financial partners or other authorized third parties.

This Privacy Policy applies regardless of the device used to access the Platform.

It does not apply to third-party websites, applications or services that maintain their own privacy policies, even where they may be accessible through links within the Platform.

3.Definitions

Unless the context requires otherwise:

Account means your registered ChequeIn profile.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) means machine learning models, automated systems and algorithms used to generate budgeting recommendations, transaction categorization, fraud detection, Wellness Scores, financial insights and other intelligent services.

Biometric Data means personal information obtained through facial recognition, fingerprint verification, liveness detection or similar authentication technologies used for identity verification and account security.

Customer, "User" or "You" means any individual or organization using the Platform.

Licensed Financial Partner means any licensed Microfinance Bank, Deposit Money Bank, Payment Service Provider, Payment Solution Service Provider or other regulated financial institution engaged by Trybesave to provide regulated financial services.

Personal Data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual as defined under the Nigeria Data Protection Act.

Processing means any operation performed on personal information including collection, recording, organization, storage, use, sharing, disclosure, transfer, deletion or destruction.

Sensitive Personal Data includes biometric information, government-issued identification numbers, financial account information and any other category of data designated as sensitive under applicable law.

Wellness Score means ChequeIn's proprietary financial wellness assessment generated using AI and customer financial behaviour.

Words importing the singular include the plural and vice versa.

4.Information We Collect

To provide the Platform and comply with applicable legal obligations, Trybesave may collect the following categories of information.

4.1Identity Information

We may collect:

  1. full name;
  2. date of birth;
  3. gender, where applicable;
  4. Nationality;
  5. photograph or selfie;
  6. National Identification Number (NIN);
  7. Bank Verification Number (BVN);
  8. Tax Identification Number (where applicable);
  9. government-issued identification documents;
  10. signatures;
  11. other identity verification information required by law.

4.2Contact Information

We may collect:

  1. residential address;
  2. correspondence address;
  3. email address;
  4. telephone number;
  5. emergency contact details where applicable.

4.3Financial Information

Depending on the services you use, we may collect:

Trybesave processes your personal information only for lawful, specified and legitimate purposes consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

The Wellness Score is informational only and does not constitute financial advice or guarantee eligibility for any financial product.

7.6Fraud Prevention and Security

We process information to:

  1. detect fraud;
  2. identify suspicious transactions;
  3. prevent unauthorized access;
  4. monitor cybersecurity threats;
  5. investigate security incidents;
  6. authenticate users;
  7. improve platform security.

7.7Service Improvement

  2. estimate affordability;

Where an automated decision significantly affects you, and applicable law provides such right, you may request that the decision be reviewed by an appropriately authorized member of our team or, where applicable, our licensed financial partner.

Human review does not guarantee that the outcome will change but ensures that relevant circumstances are considered.

8.4AI Limitations

AI-generated outputs, including Wellness Scores, budgeting recommendations and financial insights:

  1. are estimates based on available information;
  2. may not reflect all relevant circumstances;
  3. should not be regarded as professional financial, legal, investment or tax advice;
  4. should be considered alongside your own financial judgment.

8.5Continuous Improvement

We may use anonymized or aggregated information to improve our AI models, provided that such processing complies with applicable law and does not identify individual users.

9.Open Banking and Financial Data Access

9.1Connected Accounts

Where supported, you may choose to connect eligible financial accounts maintained with participating financial institutions.

Connected accounts allow the Platform to provide a consolidated view of your financial information.

9.2Customer Authorization

We access connected financial information only after obtaining your express authorization.

Your authorization may be withdrawn at any time, subject to legal and regulatory obligations.

9.3Information Accessed

Subject to your consent, we may access:

  1. account balances;
  2. transaction history;
  3. account identifiers;
  4. recurring payments;
  5. direct debit information;
  6. merchant details;
  7. income information;
  8. spending patterns;
  9. financial product information.

9.4Purpose of Access

Open Banking information may be used to:

  3. support Wellness Scores;
  4. verify account ownership;
  5. detect fraud;
  6. facilitate account linking;
  7. assess eligibility for financial products;
  8. improve customer experience.

9.5Security of Financial Data

Open Banking connections use secure authentication methods and industry-standard encryption.

We do not collect your online banking passwords or credentials unless specifically required by a regulated authentication process authorized by the relevant financial institution.

9.6Withdrawal of Consent

You may disconnect linked financial accounts through the Platform at any time.

Withdrawal of consent may limit the availability of certain features that rely on connected financial information.

10.Sharing of Personal Data

Trybesave does not sell your personal information.

We share personal information only where necessary, lawful and proportionate.

Your information may be shared with the following categories of recipients.

10.1Licensed Financial Partners

Where necessary to provide regulated financial services, your information may be shared with licensed financial institutions supporting services available through the Platform.

10.2Payment Infrastructure Providers

Personal information may be shared with regulated payment infrastructure providers to process payments, transfers and settlement instructions.

10.3Identity Verification Providers

We may disclose information to trusted identity verification providers for:

Certain service providers supporting the Platform may process information outside Nigeria.

Data Security, Privacy Rights and General Provisions

13.Data Security

13.1Our Commitment

The security of your personal information is a priority for Trybesave. We implement appropriate technical, administrative and organizational measures designed to protect your personal information against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure, unauthorized access or misuse.

While we strive to protect your information using industry-standard security controls, no electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are encouraged to take reasonable precautions to safeguard your account credentials and devices.

13.2Security Measures

Depending on the nature of the service provided, we may implement one or more of the following safeguards:

  1. Encryption of data in transit and at rest;
  2. Secure network architecture and firewalls;
  3. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA);
  4. Device binding and trusted device verification;
  5. Biometric authentication where enabled by you;
  6. Role-based access controls;
  7. Security monitoring and logging;
  8. Fraud detection and transaction monitoring systems;
  9. Malware protection and vulnerability management;
  10. Penetration testing and periodic security assessments;
  11. Backup, disaster recovery and business continuity procedures;

13.3Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your:

  1. password;
  2. security PIN;
  3. one-time passwords (OTPs);
  4. biometric authentication methods;
  5. security questions;
  6. registered devices.

You must immediately notify Trybesave if:

  1. your device is lost or stolen;
  2. you suspect unauthorized access to your Account;
  3. your login credentials have been compromised; or
  4. you discover any unauthorized transaction.

13.4Personal Data Breaches

Where a personal data breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights or freedoms, Trybesave will investigate the incident, take appropriate remedial action and notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and affected individuals where required under applicable law.

14.Data Retention

14.1Retention Period

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  1. provide our services;
  2. maintain your Account;
  3. comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations;
  4. detect and investigate fraud;
  5. resolve complaints and disputes;
  6. enforce contractual rights;
  7. satisfy audit and accounting requirements.

Transaction records, KYC documentation, communications and other financial records may be retained for the periods prescribed by applicable Nigerian laws and regulatory requirements.

14.2Secure Storage

During the applicable retention period, personal information is securely stored and protected against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction.

Access to retained information is restricted to authorized personnel and service providers with a legitimate business or legal need.

14.3Deletion and Anonymization

Where personal information is no longer required for legal, regulatory or operational purposes, it will be securely deleted, anonymized or irreversibly de-identified in accordance with our data retention policies.

Where deletion cannot occur immediately due to statutory obligations, the information will remain securely archived until deletion becomes legally permissible.

If we become aware that personal information relating to a child has been collected in violation of applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete or otherwise lawfully manage such information.

Where Trybesave introduces products specifically designed for minors, additional privacy notices and parental or guardian consent requirements may apply.

17.Marketing Communications

17.1Service Communications

We may send you communications necessary for the administration, security and operation of your Account, including:

  1. transaction notifications;
  2. login alerts;
  3. fraud alerts;
  4. security notifications;
  5. password reset messages;
  6. account updates;
  7. regulatory notices;
  8. maintenance notifications.

These communications are essential to the operation of the Platform and cannot generally be disabled while your Account remains active.

17.2Promotional Communications

Where permitted by law or based on your consent, we may send information regarding:

  1. new products and services;
  2. savings campaigns;
  3. financial education;
  4. budgeting tips;
  5. AI-generated financial insights;
  6. promotions and referral programmes;
  7. rewards and loyalty programmes;
  8. customer surveys and research.

17.3Managing Communication Preferences

You may update your communication preferences within the Platform or unsubscribe from promotional communications using the instructions provided in our communications.

Opting out of promotional communications will not affect the delivery of essential service or regulatory communications.

18.Third-Party Services

The Platform may integrate with or rely upon services provided by licensed financial institutions, payment infrastructure providers, identity verification providers, cloud hosting providers, analytics providers and other trusted service providers.

These organizations process personal information only for authorized purposes and are required by contract or applicable law to implement appropriate confidentiality and security measures.

Where the Platform contains links to third-party websites or applications, those services operate under their own privacy policies. Trybesave is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party services that we do not own or control.

Users are encouraged to review the privacy policies of such third parties before providing personal information.

19.Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect:
